A read that will not tell you its limits is a horoscope. Here is exactly what VEX measures, how sure it is, and where it goes quiet. If a coach cannot stand behind this page, they should not use the tool.
Not every line in a brief carries the same weight. The read is most confident about behavior it watched directly, and least confident the further it reaches toward what a behavior means.
How they moved through the questions. This is observed, not inferred. If the brief says they slowed on the ambition question, that happened.
The word, the rhythm, and the pattern. A well-supported reading of the behavior, the kind you would form about a person after a long first meeting. Treat it as the best current guess.
How to open, what they may retreat to. A suggestion to test in the room, not a fact about the person. If it does not fit, the person is right and the read is wrong.
A confident wrong answer is the whole danger with a machine. So the engine reads each person more than once, quietly, from the same answers, and we record whether it lands in the same place each time. When every run agrees on the word, that is a stable read. When the runs scatter, the read says so plainly, and the coach holds it loosely. The confidence you see is measured, not asserted.
The point of a living read is that it can be graded. After session one, you mark each line: did it land, or miss. Those marks do two things. They tell you which parts of this person's read to trust going forward. And in aggregate, they are how the engine gets more accurate, honestly, against reality instead of against itself.
At its best, a VEX read is as accurate as a perceptive colleague who watched the person answer six hard questions and has watched them do it again since. That is genuinely useful, and it is not more than that. It is a better first hypothesis than a blank page or a form, delivered before you meet, and it sharpens every time the person returns. Anyone who tells you an eight-minute read knows a person for certain is selling you something. We are selling you a head start you can verify.
